ALL TIME HEAD TO HEAD 29

ALL TIME HEAD TO HEAD 29 Mar 2015 • RSA v NIG • International Friendly • Venue: Mbombela Stadium Scorers: 1 (Zungu 90') - 1 (Musa 85') NIGERIA: Akpeyi, Akas, Ogbonnaya (Latifu 79'), Balogun, Omeruo (Oboabona 13'), Onazi, Sokari (Ogu 46'), Akpan (Ukoh 46'), Samuel (Ighalo 66'), Musa, Simon (Babatunde 46'). Mashaba THE MATCH A last-gasp Bongani Zungu goal canceled out Ahmed Musa's strike for Nigeria. The CSKA attacker looked to have put Bafana Bafana to the sword with a late strike, but the hosts scored in the final seconds to level the friendly. It appeared as though South Africa would rue Andile Jali's missed penalty when Ahmed Musa's excellent strike put Nigeria into a 1-0 lead with five minutes left on the clock. But Zungu pounced to earn a share of the spoils in the fourth minute of additional time in Nelspruit. A draw was the least South Africa deserved, but their hoodoo against Nigeria continued with their last victory against the Super Eagles coming in 2004. 19 Nov, 2014 • NIG v RSA• AFCON Qualification • Venue: Akwa Ibom Stadium, Uyo Scorers: 2 (Aluko 68', 90') - 2 (Rantie 42', 48') NIGERIA: Enyeama, Ambrose, Omeruo (Samuel 74'), Egwuekwe, Oshaniwa, Onazi, Mikel, Lawal (Aluko 57'), Musa, Emenike, I. Mashaba THE MATCH Nigeria crashed out of the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations despite coming from behind to hold South Africa to a 2-2 draw at the Akwa Ibom International Stadium in Uyo. Sone Aluko's double was not enough to send the reigning champions into the 2015 AFCON in Guinea, with Congo edging into through behind Bafana Bafana from Group A Though Tokelo Rantie shot South Africa into a gtwo-goal lead, Aluko's brace denied Bafana Bafana a first competitive win over the Super Eagles. 10 September 2014 • RSA v NIG • AFCON Qualification • Venue: Cape Town Stadium, Cape Town S/AFRICA: Meyiwa, Ngcongca, Matlaba, Mathoho, Hlatshwayo, Jali, Manyisa, Furman, Masango, Vilakazi, Ndulula (Rantie 46'). Manager: Stephen Keshi THE MATCH South Africa walk away happy with a point as AFCON qualifiers roll on after both sides played an entertaining goalless draw at the Cape Town Stadium. Bafana certainly looked like the team more likely to make something happen and bossed NIGERIA VS SOUTH AFRICA: the midfield from the off as they applied all the pressure but were unlucky not to be in front on a number of occasions, though many chances fell by the wayside as Bafana failed to hit the target and struggled to get their shots away. In the end, South Africa walked away the happier of the teams and headed home knowing that they already had four points in the bag and can build on their performances heading into their next qualifier against Congo-Brazzaville. AFRICAN NATIONS CHAMPIONSHIP 19 January 2014 • RSA v NIG • CHAN • Venue: Cape Town Stadium, Cape Town Scorers: South Afrca 1 (B. Keshi THE MATCH Christantus Ejike scored a brace, with Ifeanyi Ede adding a third as Bafana Bafana were brushed aside and dumped out of the African Nations Championship. The hosts got off to a flying start and soon sent Parker through on goal, following a quick burst from Mbatha, who had the better of his man and sailed past the defence. Agbim made a pair of decisive saves for the Nigerians as time ran out, denying Mashego and Tefu Mashamaite late goals and kept the Super Eagles' two-goal cushion intact. It was not to be for Bafana, as Mali claimed a 2-1 win against Mozambique in the other game of the group, allowing Mali to qualify as the winners of group A with seven points, with Nigeria finishing second with six points. 14 August 2014 • RSA v NIG • Mandela Challenge Invitational • Venue: Johannesburg Stadium Scorers: RSA 0 – 2 (Nwofor 49’, 68’) NIG SOUTH AFRICA: Khune, Masilela, Nthethe, Mathoho, Hlatshwayo, Letsholonyane (Chabangu 72), Furman, Tshabalala, Parker (Manyama 80), Phala (Nomandela 60), Rantie. Manager: Amodu Shuaibu THE MATCH South Africa were beaten 2-0 by the Super Eagles in the Nelson Mandela Challenge with substitute Uche Nwofor’s two goals as Bafana suffered their sixth defeat in eight matches against Nigeria. Nigeria made three changes after a goalless first half, bringing on Victor Moses for Mba, Ahmed Musa for Nsofor and Nwofor for Shola Ameobi. Nwofor scored the first with a cheeky backheel after a cutback from Oduamadi, after some great play by Moses on the left to hold off Phala and skip past a couple of minute with a one-touch goal after some great play by the Super Eagles. Moses skipped past his marker and played in Musa, who cut back to an unmarked Nwofor for a simple tap-in. 06 September 2008 • RSA v NIG • FIFA World Cup Qualification• Venue: Telkom Park Stadium Scorer: RSA 0 – (IK Uche 69’) NIG S/AFRICA: Khune, Morris, Mabizela, Gaxa, Carnell, Dikgacoi, Modise, Nkosi, Sibaya (Zuma 75') Tshabalala (Moriri 75'), McCarthy.
