As a matter of fact, he’d played just one full season with Division 2 side Nitel FC after another year with non-league Princess Jegede FC. The strapping lad landed in Marseille and, predicably, didn’t get much playing time before he was shipped to French Ligue 2 side Toulon were he scored 15 goals in 38 games, enough for German Bundesliga side Hansa Rostock to snap him up. Agali burst onto the German football scene with with modest Hansa Rostock and scored 17 goals in 66 games for them over three seasons. Schalke 04 had seen enough in the young Nigerian and scooped him up. He teamed up with Ghanaian-born Germany international Gerard Asamoah as Schalke P r esented b y Agali shields the ball away from Bayer Leverkusen's Lucio Ferreira in a Bundesliga game on February 17, 2001 shocked all comers to win the Podkal Cup in his very first season. He spent three seasons at the Veltins Arena before moving to France and Turkey but was back in the Bundesliga to sign for former club Hansa Rostock for one more season in 2007/08 season albeit with less success than his first coming. Agali had a very short career with the senior national team, scoring five goals in 12 games as he led Nigeria’s quest to qualify for the 2002 World Cup although he didn’t make the final squad. He was also a part of the team which won bronze at the AFCON in Mali 2002. Agali retired from active football in 2011 and is now coach of AC Racine of Lagos which he led to promotion to the Nigerian National League (second-tier) for the 2017 football season.
